We were at Calamari this weekend when Animal Kingdom won the 137th Kentucky Derby. As we sipped our Mint Julep, we enjoyed the company of lots of Derby fans. Above are Clara Anderson, Mara Gonzalez, Dyanne Feinberg and Gaea Garrity, all decked out in Derby hats.
The staff even wore hats: Sebastian Belacazar, Christina Dampman and Louie Martinez.
What I love about Calamari is that they always manage to get their customers to dress the part for whatever occasion they are doing. How many places had people show up with Derby hats yesterday? That's Ron Nelson in back, even wearing a hat. I think I am the only one who forgot my fedora and I actually had it in my hand before I left the house.
Calamari plans on doing a party for the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes -- a real Triple Crown event.
And we love the new movie star photos up above the bar, which surrounds the whole bar. That's for their daily La Dolce Vita Happy Hour, which is seven days a week from 4 to 7 pm.
