Announcing the "La Plume Young Writers Contest

The MCA Academy and The Bookstore in the Grove are holding "La Plume Young Writer's Contest."

The mission is to encourage inspiration by fostering artistic expression, imagination and reflection. They want to celebrate the creative writing talents of children and teens.

The writing contest is open to all Coconut Grove middle school students and all Coconut Grove middle school residents, which means if the students lives in the Grove, they can still enter the contest, even if they go to a school outside the Grove.

Students have until September 2 to write a story in English (only one per student). The story should be between 1000 and 3000 words. It should be hand written. Each story must be the work of one student and not the collective work of more than one student.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each grade and the grand prize winner will receive $350 and two year-long passes to the Paragon movie theater at CocoWalk.

The best part is that the first place winner will have their book published and a book signing will be held of their published work.

All registrants must register by June 6, 2011. There is a one time registration fee of $10. You can register online at www.mcaacademy.com or mail it in.
