It was a night of jazz and more at La Cava

cava2
John Reubens and Niki Simon-Blacker performed jazz and a little Broadway last night at La Cava, the downstairs wine cellar room at La Bottega. It was billed as a "Piano Jazz Cabaret," and it was. People ate, drank and sang along and there were many standing ovations.

Seated along with us back on the comfortable leather sofas were from left: Rhonda Mahaffey, Joel Kreiger, Mary MacDonald and Spirit.

cava3
From left: Al Hutchinson, Dr. Victoria Btesh-Tussie and Sandra Hutchinson.

cava4
Rick Fournier, Connie Russell and Erica King. (Erika and friends are holding a two-day garage sale in July to raise money for stray cats, details to come).

cava5
Niki was all smiles, she becomes part of the piano when she plays. Her fingers go a mile a minute, everyone gets so enraptured. From left: Niki and Lee Senter, Niki and Dr. Victoria, and Henry Barrow, wine consultant and educator, who poured red or white all night. Many of you may remember Henry as the voice of the Dolphins on radio for many years.

Jennifer Wolf and Suzanne Diamond were feeling no pain by the end of the night. It was a nice experience, it felt like a private party where everyone left humming a tune or two. There's one Gershwin tune that I liked that I will ask Niki to play for me today at the Antique Market, where she mans a booth selling vintage clothing as her day job. If you're around, stop in and sing along. John has a great booth selling vintage cuff links at the Antique Market, he may break out into song when Niki starts playing. They are incredible to have at parties, they really love what they do and are the most professional and engaging performers you will ever meet.
