Code Enforcement fines the Grove Playhouse

The Coconut Grove Playhouse was hit with a bunch of code violations by the City on Tuesday; could this finally be a good sign? Will the current board have to make a move now to do something?

According to the violation: "The three story CBS theater building is vacant, open and abandoned. This building is also suffering some structural problems on the top CBS parapet wall, this parapet wall has cracked and pieces of concrete have begun to fall onto the roof, as a result of this failure. In addition, the roof covering has failed in at least four places causing massive roof leaks that are currently deteriorating the wooden structure of the roof and have caused ceilings to collapse."

Each violation, including uncut grass and filthy surrounding grounds, will result in a fine from $50 to $500 per day, plus a lien against the property and the Certificate of Use and Occupational License will be revoked.

The City will return in 30 days to recheck to see if anything was done to fix the problems. Coconut Grove Playhouse, LLC is the owner. But the important point here may be the revocation of the Certificate of Use and the Occupational License.
