Two new Village Council members chosen

Two new Village Council members were chosen last night to replace two members who stepped down recently. Michelle Barton King (left in the photo) and Jessica Lewis (right) are the two new members.

Others who applied for the position included Jodi Engelberg, Javier Gonzalez, Aislynn Thomas and Heidi Wilson. Jodi and Aislynn did not show up at last night's meeting, so they were immediately dropped from consideration, after all, if you can't make the one meeting to sell yourself to the Council, how can you be expected to show up at actual meetings? Plus it seems only fair that those who showed up should have the opportunity to serve.

All four spoke about themselves and then took questions from the council and then later the public. They were all really good and it was a hard decision, but in the end Michelle and Jessica were chosen.

It's interesting to note that the council now has two Michelles (Niemeyer and Barton King) and three Davids (Collins, Himmel and Wells).

The officers were mixed up a bit last night, too. Michelle Niemeyer is still the Chair of the Council, David Himmel is now the Vice Chair, Michelle Barton King is Secretary and Renita Samuels-Dixon is Treasurer, a position she already had.

The next meeting is Thursday, November 10, 2011.
