HEP votes in favor of Grove Tree Watch appeal

At yesterday's Historic Preservation Board (HEP) meeting, the subject of the last two remaining trees on SW 27 Avenue were discussed. These are the last trees slated for removal as part of the SW 27 Avenue renovation plan, so far 15 trees were removed, including very old shade trees.

At yesterday's meeting HEP sided with Coconut Grove Tree Watch and ruled in favor of their appeal to keep the two remaining trees (
shown here), in front of the Shell gas station, in place. The County, working on the renovation project was asked to work around the trees and find a way to complete the job with harming the trees.

The plans should be amended and hopefully, the 55 trees slated for removal under Phase 2 of the plan will find the same fate -- salvation, in that they too, should be saved and be allowed to remain as part of the project.
