Young filmmakers to be given "Oscars" at City Hall

Eight children from Coconut Grove Cares and the Barnyard in Coconut Grove will be honored on Friday at City Hall in a red carpet event on Friday, September 23.

Arts to Literacy along with The Other Side Movement will honor the students for their skills in writing, directing, acting and filming in 30-second public service announcements that will be shown on TV nationally, part of the "Chose Life," campaign.

The mission is to help tranform the mindsets of youth away from gun violence, domestic violence drunk driving, teen pregnancy, etc. The students' short films will be shown.

A red carpet will be out in front of City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive) from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, including a limo drop off for the students, who will walk the red carpet and receive their own award that resembles the famous Academy Awards Oscar.

This is free and open to the public.
