Gallery Walk mixes with PJ Pub Crawl on Saturday

This Saturday is a big night in Coconut Grove. It's the night of the yearly Pajama Pub Crawl, which is tied in with the Great Grove Bed Race, the next day. Also, it's the first Saturday of the month, so it's Gallery Walk Night. The streets should be jammed with partiers and art lovers.

There are nine bars in the Pub Crawl, the starting point is at Mr. Moe's (3131 Commodore Plaza). It starts at 8 pm, tickets may be purchased at the door ($25 for the whole night) and for pre-sale, the cost is only $20. Those pre-sale tix are only available at The Bookstore in the Grove and Barracuda Bar and Grill. The crawl is limited to only 500 people and it fills up each year, so it would be a good idea to purchase the pre-sale tix to be sure you get in.

The Gallery Walk of course, involves all the galleries, which are open until 10 pm. There's art, live music, food and drink. Our friend Theresa Calluori (left) has a special exhibit of her work at the Dharma Studio (3170 Commodore Plaza) from 7 to 10 pm.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Theresa studied fine art at Rutgers University, Newark and printmaking at the Pratt Graphics Center, New York. She created her own genre called “Fruitscapes,” a cross between a landscape and a still life a series of “Fish Dinners.” She states, “We all need more fruit and fish in our diets.” Although she is known locally for her fruit paintings, especially her “Erotic Pears in Thongs” series, her female torsos are most intriguing.

These sculptural works say something about both women and men as objects, appliances, and toys. They are all at the same time erotic, serious, and just plain amusing. Are they a product of a twisted mind or a mind just doing the Twist? Experience a small sampling of each.

Another interesting event is at Blu Moon Studio (3444 Main Highway, top floor) has artists sharing their most personal of creations, their sketchbooks, in an exhibit called the Sketchbook Extravaganza. This will be part mixer, part exhibit, part wine tasting. It's a chance to really get into the mind of artists. The sketch books will be on display for the one night only.

The Drum Circle is also out on Gallery Walk Night at their new location at the Mayfair Promenade at the fountain. Stop by and join in, drum, dance and hoola-hoop!
