Two meetings to discuss streetscape changes

The Coconut Grove BID is holding a community meeting next Monday, regarding phase one of the sidewalk renovations, which includes another tree issue.

This "public conversation" being held at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive) will be presented by the City of Miami Capital Improvements Department and Curtis & Rogers Design Studio.

The meeting will provide information and gather input on the year-long planning process for the sidewalk initiative. The gathering will be the third public-input City Hall discussion of this project. The September 12 discussion will focus on input and final plans for Phase I along Florida Avenue.

The project will involve many interlocking pieces and it is important to come and hear how it will all fit together. The City Hall public presentation and conversation will address new brick sidewalks, wider and more level sidewalks that will increase ADA compliance, some tree canopy replacement and renewal, new technologies that address sidewalk-disrupting tree roots and improve canopy, expanded tree pits to enhance health of trees, curb cuts, elimination of some on-street parking spaces, and more room for pedestrians and sidewalk cafes in the Village.

The meeting is from 7 to 8 pm.

That same week, on Wednesday, September 14, there is a Planning and Zoning Appeals Board meeting regarding the elimination of parking spaces at the corner of Main Highway and Commodore Plaza, which is part of the new sidewalk streetscape project. That meeting is at 7 pm at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive).

The street scape plan may be seen here, here and here.
