Local fireman and activist Elvis Cruz has produced a full length independent film called All Men Are Beasts, which is playing at the Paragon Grove 13 through October 6. Elvis not only produced the film, he also wrote and directed it. And he acts in it, too! That's Elvis in a scene from the movie with Tia Bakes and Meredith Lasher at Crandon Park.

The romantic comedy was filmed around Miami over a three year period. Elvis calls it a Miami version of "Sex and the City."

The plot was explained to me like this: A high school English teacher divorces her childhood sweetheart, re-enters the dating game, gets by with a lot of help from her friends and writes a book about it.

The cast, along with Elvis, includes Tia Bakes, Meredith Lasher, Mark Schauder, Christopher D. Brown, Oscar Cheda, Steve Triplett, Tanya Bravo and Shelley Gordon.

Elvis also wrote a book by the same name. The 336-page book, which includes still photos and script excerpts from the movie was released this month.
