Participate in today's drumming class

drum8

There's a drumming class today, August 14, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm called "A Unique Drumming Class."

You'll learn traditional rhythms from places like West Africa and the Caribbean and they will also focus on developing improvisational skills and learning how to create your own parts that will strengthen any drum circle. There is an emphasis placed on having fun and enhancing your own rhythmic sensibilities. Everyone from beginners to more advanced players are welcome.

As you know, each month, the Coconut Grove Drum Circle participates during Gallery Walk, but they also attend other drumming events throughout the month.

Learn how to play (and create) parts that will support one another. Beginners will learn basic parts or rhythms that will compliment the more difficult parts played by the more experienced drummers. The class is led by professional percussionist Sean Dibble who has recorded and/or performed a wide variety of music genres with many different artists including Julio Iglesias, Afro Brazilian singer Angela Patua, and many others. Sean has been working as an accompanist for the dance department at New World School of the Arts since 2000.

Classes are only $10 for struggling artists/musicians and students or $15 for adults.

The class is at: Aum Home Shala, 3104 Florida Avenue in Coconut Grove.
