Grovite chosen to fill spot on 3rd District Court

Grovite Ivan Fernandez, who is a Miami-Dade Judge, was chosen this week, to fill a spot on the 3rd District Court of Appeal, by Governor Rick Scott.

The two other finalists this week Assistant County Attorney Thomas Logue and Key West lawyer Edwin Scales III, a member of The Florida Bar board of governors.

Gov. Scott interviewed them this week. It's his first appointment to the Miami appellate court, which hears cases from Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

Fifteen applied to replace retiring Judge David M. Gersten, and the court’s Judicial Nominating Commission chose six to send to the governor. This is the second time in a row that Fernandez was nominated.

Many of you may remember Judge Fernandez when he started out at our local NET office.
