Movie, food, music all part of Buddha Birthday

Zen Village (3570 Main Highway) is holding a Buddha Birthday Celebration on Saturday, June 25. It's an inauguration ceremony for the first stupa in South Florida, too.

Events begin at 5 pm with a film screening of the new documentary, "Serotonin Rising." The film examines the mental, physical, chemical and physical effects of compassion and service.

An Asian vegetarian buffet will be served after that and entertainment from traditional Chinese musicians is part of the program.

The rhythm of drums will lead the inauguration ceremony of the stupa. The events will include a thousand-candle prayer and personal dedications. Then the director of the center, Master Tsai, will give a message of the philosophy behind giving and community wellness, and the goals of Zen Village. The evening will conclude with a raffle of three valuable items including spiritual art.

There will then be a pledge of contributions, and a closing performance by Sony’s Colombian pop stars “Las Marti.”
