Miss Earth Coconut Grove crowned at pageant

Coconut Grove has officially welcomed its own royalty with the new Miss Earth Coconut Grove and Miss Teen Earth Coconut Grove 2011 queens, crowned last Saturday during a two hour ceremony at the Miami Hilton Hotel.

After competing with a dozen other ladies between the ages of 14 and 26, Sophia Allen, shown at left, was named Miss Earth Coconut Grove 2011 and Natalie Dubuc-Myers, right, was named Miss Teen Earth Coconut Grove 2011
. They will now represent the Grove during the state competition of Miss Earth Florida and Miss Teen Earth Florida, all expenses paid.

Sophia and Natalie will develop projects for 12 months to educate the community on greener and healthier ways to live and will attend different events throughout their year representing Coconut Grove.

Miss Earth is one of the largest pageants in the planet with over 80 countries competing in the world finals each year, and the only one dedicated 100 percent to environmental and humanitarian efforts.

Besides a beauty pageant, Miss Earth Florida is also a program for young leaders and role models and their winners are often known for being outstanding contributors and educators in the community.

The Miss Earth Florida finals are scheduled for June 26.
Sophia and Natalie will compete with young ladies from all across the state for a chance to win their ticket to the national finals of Miss Earth.
