There are plenty of safe places to park

Ten cars within 2.5 weeks have been broken into on Franklin Street. Mostly GPS devices have been stolen, the crooks then press "home" on the GPS, find out where the person lives and hit them again if possible.

I mention this only because I know a lot of people who don't want to pay for parking, mostly younger people, so to avoid the meters and parking garages when visiting the Grove, they park up and down Franklin and other back streets in that area.

I've seen broken glass on the floor along the street and it's obvious it is from car windows. Makes no sense to risk the break-in to save a few bucks. There are over 4800 parking spots in Grove garages within a block or two of the Center Grove, there is also meter parking if you look hard enough, the few bucks you pay to park is worth it.

After spending an night or day out, a couple of bucks for parking is not going to make much of a dent in your wallet. There is a good parking location map of the Grove here.
