Miami Police Department going green?

District Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and reps from the police department are going to get a first look at the 100%, full powered, no emission Zero Motorcycles on Monday, July 19 at 5:30 pm in front of City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive.

Zero Motorcycles, out of California, accelerate from 0-60 in 5 seconds and have the most powerful battery pack of an electric vehicle in the world. The motorcycles are designed by a former NASA engineer and operate at a cost of 1 cent per mile. Jay Leno rides one of these.

They take about four hours to charge fully and operate for 60 miles on each charge.

“Obviously, the BP oil disaster in the Gulf is a sad reminder that our Country drastically needs to reduce our dependence on oil. Zero Motorcycles are gaining popularity in Europe and could become a common sight on the streets of South Florida,” says Sarnoff.

Zero Motorcycles can be retrofit for police use and are currently used by several police departments around the country. The public is invited to stop by and check them out.
