Park(ing) Day is Friday, join us in Coconut Grove

Park(ing) Day is this Friday, September 17, set up will begin at 7 am, the 10 meters donated by the Miami Parking Authority will be bagged the night before. Our Tableaux Vivant will come to life.

Sod will be laid down at 7 am, from 8 to 10:30 am, "parks" will be set up in the parking spaces by volunteers, this will include the sod and barricades for safety.

From 11 am to 2 pm, "McFarlane Park" will be open to the public. At 11 am, Commissioners Sarnoff and Suarez will arrive and give a little speech. The press has been invited and may be there at that time.

At 2 pm, it is strike down, so that the area is cleared in time for the evening rush hour traffic. It is assumed that one lane of traffic on McFarlane along with the 10 parking spots will be taken up for the event. This is a very exciting event. It's a great opportunity to turn asphalt into parks and show that parking spaces can be consumed into the landscape and we can go even greener in our own little green village.

Musicians, the drum circle group, artists and all creative types are welcome to participate. There will be a petition to sign up folks asking for more green space in our cities.
