Changes in store for the Playhouse parking lot

The Coconut Grove Playhouse parking lot is going to finally be run like a parking lot should be run.

The BID is holding a special meeting on October 7 to vote on ratifying expenditures in order to redo the lot's surface and operation, the cost should be between $70,000 and $100,000.

The Miami Parking Authority and the current lot operator, Rick Kalwani of Aries Development Group will form an arrangement to have the lot run properly. It will be resurfaced, re-lit and re-staffed. Costs are expected to be $3 for parking in the day and $5 at night.

The BID is hoping to persuade business owners, mostly restaurants, to validate parking, making it free for their patrons. A few business owners have been in discussions about this already.

It is expected to be ratified and the lot to be open by mid-November.
