Park it, Coconut Grove!

Park(ing) Day is from 11 am to 2 pm on Friday, September 17. The spaces from Johnny Rockets up toward the Sonesta are part of the "park," on McFarlane Road.

The Miami Parking Authority generously donated 10 spots and with the driveways in between, it will stretch out along the whole block.

The "parks" will be on the same side of the street as Johnny Rockets. Tomas' New York Pizza will have green pizza for sale and Smoothie King is preparing some sort of green concoction. It would be nice if all merchants went green on Friday, and participated if possible, with promotions on green foods -- foods that are actually green in color, or healthy or both and maybe clothing stores could promote green clothing or jewelery or whatever fits in with the theme. Art galleries can have green paintings in the windows, etc.

The Coconut Grove Drum Circle will have a spot, artist Nancy Martini has a plan to bring art to the public by engaging them in a drawing area where they can do their own thing, others will play music, get some sun and just have a good green afternoon.

Commissioner Francis Suarez plans to fly a kite, we aren't sure if he gets what that means, but that is the plan according to his office. Commissioner Sarnoff will be present, too. We are going to ask him to fly a kite, as well, and hopefully get a picture of it.

Hope to see you all there. Everyone is welcome to join in, there are 10 spots, but everyone is willing to share if the spots go fast. The Chamber is having its luncheon at the same time, not too far away at the Mutiny, so maybe some Chamber members can come out and share some of Atchana's food with us as we are greening it up, out on the streets. I'm sure Sylvia Quinn or Siri or Tony Noboa can sneak out some Pad Thai or ribs or something.
