Grove Day to celebrate Bahamian culture

Combining the old with the new is the premise of Grove Day, being held Saturday, June 5.

The old is the Bahamian Grove roots, the new is the Paragon Grove 13 movie theaters opening that weekend at CocoWalk.

Grove Day will consist of an authentic Bahamian straw market. Grand Avenue will be the venue in front of the Windisch-Hunt Gallery. Authentic arts, crafts, food, music and clothing will be brought in directly from the Bahamas.

Miami historian Paul George will be giving a free walking tour of Coconut Grove at 2 pm. There will be an earlier tour, too at 10 am, given by one of his colleagues.

There will be a fashion show and movie ticket giveaways. Junkanoo music will fill the air. The day will flow right into the First Saturday Gallery Walk, which will take over the evening.

This will all add to the build up of Sunday's Goombay Festival, on the other end of Grand Avenue.
