Adding color and flavor to the streets

This is a new concept being discussed for Coconut Grove. No, it's not a shower, it's a Bahamian-style kiosk, a new project of the Coconut Grove Collaborative.

A few of them are being discussed for Village West. 10 is the plan, but four may be part of the first phase.

Village West is being considered as a vending district, where the kiosks will be set up at various locations selling hand crafted items like straw products and jewelry and one kiosk may just be used to hand out information about the rest of the Grove.

They kiosks will have a Caribbean-Bahamian flavor. The idea is to recapture the streets to create walkability and manage and program the streets into being something better than they are now.

The vendors will be extra eyes and ears on the streets; extra security. And three security guards are part of the project, they will be dressed as Bahamian constables and patrol the area. The county has agreed to fund them.

Public Works has already provided the guidelines for the kiosks, now the City Commission just needs to approve the project.
