The Literati came out to play

poetry
I counted over 70 poetry lovers in the Bookstore last night for poetry night. There were over 150 people, maybe 200, in the Bookstore itself. Nice crowd for a Friday night.

Across the way the Sandbar and Barracuda were catering to their happy hour crowds and the restaurants up and down the streets were serving dinner. I love what the Grove is becoming. There is something for everyone.

Back at the Bookstore, the staff fussed over the cerebral crowd, serving coffee, pastries, sandwiches and culture. Michael Malone, an FIU professor, hosted poetry night, celebrating Poetry Month. He started with a poem from Langston Hughes and then the audience came up one by one and read their favorite poem or their own original work. It started at 7 and ended three hours later. There were that many people reading poetry!
