Black Top Basketball needs funds

Black Top Basketball is taking place now at Verrick Park (3255 Plaza Street). Vickie Covington, Park Manager spoke to the Village Council last night.

It's a 14 week program, now in its second week. On Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 pm, 350 to 400 people come come out to enjoy the competition along with music played by DJ's and food and fun. This will run until about mid-July.

Families and groups come to the Grove from all over the county. Now in it's fifth year, they need donations to continue -- funds and time are needed. Awards and a banquet are planned for the end of the season and money is needed for that. Also, they would like to video tape games and equipment is needed for that. Money would also be used to sell items (t-shirts, caps) to raise additional funds.

The Village Council gave $500.00 to the program. Dave Collins, council member was nice enough to raise the amount from the original $200.00 offered by council member Michelle Neimeyer. The council also suggested that Comm. Marc Sarnoff's office also help the program with funding.
