People have been telling me that they started dismantling the Expo Center, I drove around the building and didn't see much destruction, just a few of the Burn Notice sets were taken down from the outside of the building, you know, where they made things look like stores and hospitals and such.
But now the big job is going to begin once a bidder is decided upon. It's the end of tv and movies in Coconut Grove. A perfectly good studio is going to vanish.
The Capital Improvements Department selected BG Group LLC for the $596,194 job and it's just up to the City Commission to approve it.
I remember when Sarnoff had suggested that the last episode be scripted so that they blow up the building and save a lot of time and cost, although I suspect the clean-up would have been more of an expense, but the production company gave Sarnoff a snub it seems, when they did have a huge blow up in the final episode, only they filmed it at the former Miami Herald building downtown. Coincidental? Who knows, but it was the final episode and there was a major explosion. Only the Herald building did not come down, Genting, the new owners will have to handle that job.
Sarnoff keeps calling the park that will replace the Expo Center as our "High Line Park," comparing it to New York's High Line. I'm sure it will be grass and maybe trees, but it ain't gonna be no High Line.
