Brickell tree removal halted for now

While we were ignored when we tried to save the Coconut Grove trees, it appears that the neighbors on Brickell got through to the City. The neighbors have been protesting the removal of large trees on Brickell, which has been going on for weeks. They claim the city also does not have proper permits. 45 trees were removed earlier in the month for various reasons from "being sick" to "overcrowding."

The project has been stopped and the City Manager, Commissioner Sarnoff and other city officials will decide ow to proceed. From a letter sent out from the Commissioner's office: "The project will not go forward as originally planned until we’ve had a chance to get more input from constituents as well as experts. And [Sarnoff] is also considering holding a community meeting in order to hear from more constituents."

As for the Grove trees and streetscape project; it is at a standstill for various reasons, like the County does not want to get involved in its part right now and the Florida Avenue work was not done to par.
