Old Smokey

Good article today in today's Herald about Old Smokey, the old incinerator in Village West.

When I was at the Peace Rally for Frederick recently in Armbrister Park, a friend I was with asked what the big yellow building was adjacent to the park. Someone said it was a firehouse training facility, but it appears that before that, it was Old Smokey.

I have parked right outside that building many times when attending events in the park, I never thought twice about it. But it has a long history, and not a good one.

The soil is contaminated from decades of the incinerator spewing off smoke and debris and even setting trees on fire at times.

Neighbors are concerned, but no one is doing anything.
