Elizabeth Virrick Park Committee meeting

The Elizabeth Virrick Park Committee, supporting Elizabeth Virrick Park, meets Monday, September 16 at 6:30 pm.

The meeting is open to the public, it takes place in the parks' computer room at 3255 Plaza Street.

Help support this park by coming to the meetings. The park is named after Elizabeth Wilhelmina Landsberg Virrick, a pioneer in housing reform in black post-WW2 Miami. The park has some of the best indoor and outdoor basketball courts (home to Miami’s annual Black Top Basketball Tournament), there is great music and educational programs for the Village West youth (in partnership with the University of Miami, the Thelma Gibson Health Initiative and other participants), adult computer classes are being planned and there are nice picnic areas for the family.

Annual music and art festivals take place at the park, and one of the crown jewels is a modern co-located Miami-Dade County Public Library branch and upon approval, the future home of a year-round Olympic size pool (replacing our existing dated pool). Also the park facilities are available to rent (via the City of Miami, Department of Parks and Recreation) for special occasions. So come-on out and be part of your park and meet new and old friends.
