The South Florida Free Divers are holding a fishing tournament at Shake-A-Leg Miami on Saturday, November 16. The fishing is between 7:30 am and 4 pm and after 4 pm, the weigh-in starts and the after party begins after that.
At the after party there will be a pig roast, open bar, live music and other events. It is a $20 donation for anyone who wants to partake in the food and drinks, but anyone can come to observe the weigh in for free. Some of the best freedivers and spearfishermen in the world, including two former national champions, will be there. There are sure to be some massive fish.
South Florida Freedivers, the Freediving Spearfish Club, brings together people who are interested in freediving, underwater photography, video production, and spearfishing.
Meetings are every second Thursday at 7:30 pm at Whiskey Joe's Marina Bar at Rickenbacker Marina. The purpose of these meetings is to put together a group of likeminded individuals who respect and honor the best of the sport; local fishing regulations and practices, selectivity and conservation, and above all diver safety.
They try and accomplish this mission by inviting guest speakers to share their story and often videos. Meetings are open to the public and there are no membership dues.
The group has raised thousands of dollars for local charities through the tournaments.
