Water Balloon Fight to help end global water crisis

100,000 water balloons, 5000 people, one day, tons of fun, that's how Miami's Biggest Water Balloon Fight is being promoted by Blue Mission, the group putting it on. It's an event to raise money to end the global water crisis.

Blue Mission's "Every Drop Counts 2013" event is Saturday, April 13, at Tamiami Park (11201 SW 24 Street) from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. The water balloon fight is at 10:00 am. After that there are food trucks and live music. Also, bounce houses and carnival games.

Pre-registration here is $20 (you can just donate at that link too; on-site registration is $30.

$20 provides Water for Life for one individual.

Facts:

- Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

- Every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.

- More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world.

- 780 million people lack access to an improved water source; approximately 1 in 9 people.

- An American taking a 5-minute shower uses more water than the average person in a developing country slum uses for an entire day.

Blue Mission's Mission: “To combat the global water and sanitation crisis by educating the youth of today of the great need that exists and to facilitate authentic immersion experiences that directly expose and address the poverty that permeates the many corners of our world.”
