HCA making drastic, selfish changes at Mercy

It's a shame that it's all about business in this country when it comes to medicine and
health care.

Now that HCA is purchaing Mercy Hospital, they will be a "for profit" hospital and with that comes the end of help for the indigent. Starting March 15, 2011, those in need are out.

The Meds for the Poor Program is being discontinued, this includes the Ryan White HIV-meds-for-the-poor program.

Mercy plans to meet with neighborhood groups to hear their concerns about their
new expansion project. I think it would be a cool thing if the neighbors, instead of selfishly selling out for big bucks, stipulate that the indigent programs stay in place as a concession to allow Mercy to proceed with its expansion. It's easy for me to say because my condo is one of the groups meeting with Mercy.

Details on the HCA plans in The New Times
