The new Pilates in the Grove
A place to restore and harmonize mind, body and soul

According to recent studies, about 25 million Americans have turned to mind-body systems of exercise, such as yoga and Pilates, for just such results and many others.

Enthusiasts now know that enlightened exercise is about much more than burning calories, flattening abdominals and toning thighs, although these are all welcome by-products. Today’s mind-body exercise disciplines recognize movement as a way to restore and harmonize mind, body and soul.

Pilates in the Grove is a fitness center right here in Coconut Grove that can offer amazing benefits.

Yoga classes are led by Ashtanga instructor, Ana Donlan (left), formerly of 24 Hour Fitness. Even if you think yoga isn't your thing, the stuff you learn will have you banging out a practice you never knew you had in you and you will find yourself returning for regular classes. Ana has been a yoga practitioner for 15 years and started Ashtanga yoga teaching 10 years ago in San Francisco with Larry Shultz from It’s Yoga.

Ana’s class creates endurance and stamina. In it you will renew energy and vitality to the body, all the while clearing the mind. Ana believes that yoga is designed to help one live a spiritually rich life and that Vinyasa yoga is the perfect vehicle to achieve this. Life is not about knowing, it is about learning how to move, breath and live in a community of seekers.

Pilates sessions are led by physical therapist and owner Christa Gurka (left). Christa was introduced to Pilates while in Physical Therapy school at the University of Miami. She received a Bachelors of Health Science from the University of Miami in 1996 and then went on to receive a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy in 1999. She has spent the majority of her career working as a physical therapist and clinical director in outpatient orthopedics.

After discovering that Pilates can be beneficial for rehabilitation as well as for fitness, Christa became a Certified Pilates Practitioner through Polestar Pilates in 2004. She not only uses her knowledge of this exercise technique when treating her patients, but has become an experienced group exercise instructor as well. She is currently certified in all apparatuses and has extensive knowledge of sport specific training.

Pilates in the Grove is currently offering a special for all new clients. If you buy one class you will get your second class free and Coconut Grove residents receive 10% off any packages purchased at the studio as well.
