Grove Bucks is part of FICPA race, yes that race

The FICPA 1040K Run is going to take place as planned on Friday, April 15. Was there ever any doubt? Organizers met with the BID and they settled their differences, the only difference basically being that the BID was not given enough time, they want to know about events a full 60 days in advance, the race gave them about 30 days' notice. But the BID ended up fining the race organizers. And the money used for the fine is being used to fund Grove Bucks which will be given out as prizes at the race. I like this idea of fining people when necessary and using the money to help the merchants. Race organizers claim that they were not fined, but that they offered to donate to the community as a peace offering. Either way, the Grove Bucks are a great thing to help merchants out and smooth things over with the FICPA people.

The race/walk is a great event for the Grove and for charity and hopefully the event will come around every year on April 15, just like tax day, well not tax day so much, but hopefully the race/walk will always return.

The participants of the FICPA run/walk will be given a bunch of Grove Bucks as part of their prize package or raffle or something. So the BID is funding the bucks and the Merchants Group is coordinating it. They actually put it in my hands, so I guess I am coordinating it. The Bucks are being printed now and they'll be ready for Friday, which is race day. They'll be in $20 increments. So each buck will be good for $20 worth of goodies in Coconut Grove at various merchants.

The new buck design was created by Ed Ferenczi.
