New petition against street closure is going around

petition2
Last week a couple of guys were out surveying Virginia Street at Grand Avenue. Is the Virgina Street closing still on? We assume it can't be since the majority of the Grove is against closing this major intersection. They are so opposed to it that people are signing a petition in droves. It turns out that the surveyors got people worried, but they were working on a project for Mayfair, not the street closing.

Either way, over 100 businesses have already signed the petition and now it's the residents's turn. John El-Masry, of Mr. Moe's started the petition, and if you would like to sign it, please stop by Mr. Moe's (3131 Commodore Plaza).

"People are dead set against it [the street closure]", said John. He says that he has not been turned down by anyone he has asked to sign the petiton. No one. While it has been said that one of the largest businesses on the block, CocoWalk is in favor of the street closure, I have seen an email by the owners, and they are totally against it without question.

The main concern stated by those who were asked, is that they feel a majory artery into the Grove should stay open, they feel it makes no sense to close a major roadway into the village. The fire department, just a few blocks away, is adamant about it not closing, too.
