Kayak-A-Thon for charity at Shake-A-Leg

committee

Students at Shake-A-Leg Miami, are having a Kayak-A-Thon on Saturday, January 30 from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, just offshore of Shake-A-Leg Miami’s sea base, to benefit disaster relief in Haiti.

The students are collecting and/or purchasing medical supplies, canned goods, clothing and other non-perishable items which will subsequently serve as their registration “fee” to participate in the Kayak-A-Thon. Shake-A-Leg Miami is encouraging the community to lend their support by sponsoring students who are unable to purchase or collect the necessary supplies on their own by donating 10 non-perishable items, which in turn will allow them participate.

Proceeds from the event will be given to Shake-A-Leg Miami’s partnering organization,
Project Medishare, a non-profit organization co-founded by Dr. Barth Green dedicated to sharing its resources with Haiti in the quest to achieve quality healthcare and development. Dr. Green, who is also the co-founder of Shake-A-Leg Miami, was one of the first medical responders on the ground after the earthquake struck.

A spectator boat will be provided if you wish to watch the students in action and can be accessed by donating one case of water.

The Student Committee is made up of President, Lander Mix; Vice President, Daje Austin; Speaker, Khareem Oliver; and Writer, Santiago Correa.

If you wish to support the students in their efforts to help the people of Haiti, please contact Jonas Roddenberry at 305.858.5550, ext: 168. Shake-A-Leg Miami is located at 2620 S. Bayshore Drive (next to Monty’s). For more information on Shake-A-Leg Miami visit
