Shop local on Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is November 30. This yearly day is the anti-Black Friday. It's a day when you are asked to spend money and buy gifts in local mom and pop, family-run businesses.

Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010. Credit is given to shoppers who participate and businesses who participate receive marketing help.

Last year, an estimated $5.5 billion was spent in independent small business on just the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The majority of the money spent at local businesses stays local.

Small Business Saturday of course, falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as Monday is reserved for online sales, it is suggested that the Small Business Saturday sales take place at brick and mortar stores.

Coconut Grove is made for an event like this, as most of the village consists of one-of-a-kind small businesses.

American Express will give back $10 when you spend $10. You can get more info and register here.
