Development for Village West has been approved

City Commissioners unanimously approved the Grove Village proposal to bring retail and condos to Grand Avenue in the Village West.

Many feel that the project will bridge the West Grove with the East Grove and make it one walking village. I think this is true.

Many neighbors in the area are concerned about being displaced but the area is a mess now due to the removal of so many of the apartment buildings that lined Grand Avenue. I understand the concerns of the Grove pioneers (the Bahamian families that moved here so long ago), but sometimes progress is a good thing. How can people complain about gleaming new stores and buildings and possibly a supermarket.

Publix has been in and out and I'm not sure where they stand now, but this will be a good thing if it is kept low density and employees most in the neighborhood who want jobs.

It's take so long already, this thing could drag out for years. The Herald has a story in more detail about the City Commission meeting.
