It was a nostalgic night on Commodore Plaza

Last night's Coconut Grove Block Party on Commodore Plaza was a lot of fun, the heat finally broke and it made for an enjoyable evening.

The 1970s theme was a hit and the classic cars drew a lot of people to the street. As we ate at Al Fresco, the old Midnight Special tv show was playing on the large screen overhead, Phoebe Snow, the Kinks, the Steve Miller Band and a brand new Olivia Newton John entertained us as we watched the original films.

Everyone seemed very nostalgic, one friend was telling me about good times at the old Village Inn (Mr. Moe's now) and how it had such a European feel back in the day, she remembers being there after seeing the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which played every weekend at the old Grove Cinema (on the corner where part of the post office is now, you can see the area in the photo below, it was all the way to the left of the post office building, on the 32nd Avenue side).

Another friend brought out an old ad souvenir ad journal from the 1970s, which showed many old familiar places and a lot of places that are still around, like Monty's.

It really was a fun night and for many of us that are always bitching about being back in the old Grove, we got our chance last night. They may keep up the theme for the rest of the season, which would be super. It gives people a chance to go back in time once a week and relive our youth while eating, enjoying art, enjoying classic cars and especially while enjoying the music.
