New Dinner Key Mooring facility is complete

The Dinner Key Municipal Mooring Facility will be having a grand opening ceremony on Monday, November 2 at 10:00 am. The new facility lies just offshore from the flagship facility, Dinner Key Marina, you may have seen lots of work being done at the Seminole Boat Ramp area for the past month or so.

According to the city: "As a part of the Biscayne Bay Aquatic preserve, the City pursued the opportunity to provide transient and liveaboard customers with access to a managed mooring field which protects seagrass beds and other aquatic vegetation. In addition, the City recently purchased a Pump out vessel which will aid the disposal of vessel waste and improve water quality."

Other vessels will also serve as customer shuttles to and from the mooring field from the Seminole Dinghy Dock. The design and construction cost of the project is $650,018. The funding sources came from the Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond and FIND Waterways Assistance Program.

Upland amenities at the existing facility that are available to City residents and visiting boaters include a Harbormaster’s Office and Customer Lounge; restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities; dinghy dock with customer shuttle service; vehicle and bicycle parking; trash pickup and recycling.

Applications for moorings are taken on a first come, first served basis and can be completed online at
www.miami-marinas.com or in person at Dinner Key Marina. Only seaworthy vessels with the proper title and registration will be accepted.

Hour of operation are: 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 am through 8:00 pm, Friday through Sunday.
