The irony

Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and BID head David Collins and quite a few others are talking about the beautification of the Grove. They plan on putting lots of flowers around, they plan on changing the brick sidewalks (to other safer bricks), they put up a trellis at the post office to keep graffiti vandals away, etc.

You may have noticed crews around town fixing and changing signs. They are even going to change those maps that sit on the sidewalks near CocoWalk and Fuller Street, but the ironic thing is that in the process they are unbeautifying the Grove.

We witnessed a guy the other day spraying bright orange paint onto the the street curb and sidewalk in order to mark the spot where a new sign will go in place of an old sign. This is really ugly and makes no sense. Two steps forward, one step back.

We talked about this eyesore once before here. (The photo there may go into the next column due to format changes since it was posted last).

How about using chalk that will wash away or a paint that will fade or disappear in time?
