Fake cutout cops deter bicycle thefts

We had some bicycles vandalized at our condo last weekend. They weren't stolen, but oddly enough, parts of bikes were taken, like a seat from one bike, the tires from another, the handle bars from another. Very weird.

It's no secret that bike thefts are a problem in Coconut Grove and apparently they were also a problem in Boston, but they came up with a solution that has taken bike thefts down by 67% in that city -- cardboard police officer cutouts!

Boston is unable to pay real cops to patrol their transit stops, so the cardboard cutouts were designed and they are working according to this story in Time Magazine.

Guess that's something we can consider here. Empty patrol cars usually parked around the neighborhoods here in the Grove seem to slow cars down, why not the cutouts at high crime areas?
