Protecting the City's green spaces

Under Miami 21, 20 percent of parks can be covered with a building and on top of that, parking can be added to accommodate the building. This is not the case with the county. They are quite strict with anything being built in the county.

This is a concern for many regarding Peacock Park. What is to stop something else being added to the park for commercial use? 

I would assume that most people would like parks to remain parks, you know, to remain green, not to be commercialized. While many projects in parks may benefit the city monitarily with the city collecting rents and fees, which offset taxes and other things, it seems that most people would rather have the park than the commercial venture.

There is a petition called "More Parks for Miami Now!" It asks the mayor to collect higher one-time impact fees from developers so that park acerage is aded to Miami, not taken away, as it is so many times.
