The lowdown on Muvico; what are their plans?

Mike Whalen and Mike Wilson from Muvico spoke about their plans at last night's Village Council meeting.

On October 1, they will start retrofitting the old AMC. A bowling alley will not be part of the theater, basically because there is not room, they would prefer 14 screens to eight screens, which would have been the case with the bowling alley, they are a movie company after all. Makes sense, I did wonder how it all was going to fit when the bowling alley was part of the original plan.

They will have reserved stadium seating, you could even reserve the seats online. A Sony high def projector is part of the plan, as well as 3-D showings. A 21 and over theater is also part of the concept, which plays in with the bar, lounge area and restaurant. There will be 14 screens.

$4 million is going into the upgrade and they are hoping for a Spring 2010 opening.

They aren't sure if they will be able to show movies as they renovate. Spiteful previous owners have been known to destroy places before new tenants take over, accoriding to Bob Whelan, owner of CocoWalk, and until Muvico gets in, they won't know if AMC left them anything to work with. But they did promise the Village Council that they would try to have at least two theaters up and running, especially during the holiday season.
