The Mayfair Antique Market is back this weekend, running Saturday and Sunday. I saw Tony and Lewis and gang getting things ready at Mayfair. The dealers will be setting up tomorrow and that's an informal type thing if you would like to stop by and look around and purchase if you like.
40% of people coming to shop are locals and the remainder are people from outside the area, who are coming to the Grove specifically for this, so say recent surveys.
Antique cars were brought up again at the last merchant's meeting. Tony and his crew are in contact with many dealers and clubs who display the cars. Recently there was a show in South Miami and one in Hollywood.
There are different thoughts on the process. Should the cars be strewn around the Grove, so people can just walk around and come upon them or should it be one central location?
Harry Emilio Gottlieb suggested shutting down Matilda Street and I added that it could then continue to Fuller Street and that area could be where the cars are displayed -- right in the center of things. Someone said it could be certain types of cars, like old Volkswagen Beetles are very popular and the whole "flower power" thing sort of fits the Grove's 1960s and '70s heydays.
