FPL refuses to give up on their power lines up US 1 through the Grove to serve its proposed new reactors. Many residents and even scientists are worried about the affect it will have, regarding health issues.
A Town Hall meeting on power lines and nuclear expansion is tomorrow, December 10, 7 to 10 pm, at South Miami City Hall (6130 Sunset Drive). The Coconut Grove Village Council has a sub-committee very involved, chaired by new Village Council Member Stephen Murray.
Knowledgeable speakers will present information on:
– New biomedical literature on health effects of power lines on residents
– Turkey Point's history of safety violations and equipment malfunctions
– Risks of new reactors to our aquifers and Biscayne Bay
– Effects of new reactors on Everglades restoration
– Economics of nuclear power generation vs. renewable energy
– Citizen options
At the last meeting, FPL was very rude and most of their reps did not even bother to show up. This meeting should be interesting.
