FPL disses the crowd at last night's meeting
Last night, about 200 people showed up for the FPL high voltage discussion at UM, but apparently FPL couldn't be bothered. You can see all the empty seats up at the dais.
The Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection ran the meeting. Scientists from UM and FIU challenged the assertions that there are no proven health risks associated with living near the sort of transmission lines that FPL proposes putting along the Metrorail right of way on US1.
The presentation was very condescending, One FPL employee who spoke (but did not answer questions) read her speech as if she was reading to a kindergarten class, treating the crowd like children.
Confusing parts were glossed over. Not many questions were answered. Grove Village Council member Michelle Niemeyer, who was present asked for a copy of the PowerPoint presentation so she could post it on the Village Council website. Let's see if that happens.
