Greening up CocoWalk while illegally parking

cocowalk

This van has been parked in the middle of the sidewalk all day. I guess it's the thing to do now. Since Code Enforcment does it (here and here). It seems that if you don't want a ticket from the Parking Authority, all you have to do is park on the sidewalk, they ignore this while they stalk honest parkers.

This van actually is part of the plant project at CocoWalk, nice new plants are filling up empty spaces. Still, the plants were dropped off early this morning, is it necessary to block the sidewalk all day?

From Pee Wee to antiques, they have it all

Go on a big adventure this weekend at the Mayfair Antiques and Collectibles market, just like Pee Wee Herman!

You can actually buy Pee Wee, this original costume is availble, as well as the bicycle.

The vendors are inside and out, the inside is air conditioned, where you can spend the afternoon shopping for one-of-a-kind items.

The Antiques and Collectibles Market is open Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 7 pm, right at the Promenade at Mayfair.

Regalado and Sarnoff will not attend Marlins ceremonies

The Marlins are breaking ground today at their new stadium site with a big to do with media and photo ops and all sorts of partying. Commissioners Tomás Regalado and Marc Sarnoff have decided not to go. They were against the stadium deal and feel it would be hypocritical for them to be seen there glad handing and taking photos at the ground breaking ceremonies.

Regalado not only feels it is hypocritical to attend, but he says he won't step foot in the stadium unless the city's fire and police departments can when duty calls.

You see, if trouble or a fire breaks out, the Miami-Dade County fire and police handle that not the city of Miami departments, even though the stadium is on city land, which, by the way, was actually given away to the Marlins for free. This does not sit right with Regalado and many others.

This may be a good thing though, since the county is currently cutting salaries and jobs and the City of Miami likes to piss money away, especially on the fire and police department salaries. Maybe the county should keep an eye on that tab.

I like the blue raspberry flavor

Stop in Shell Lumber (2733 SW 27 Avenue) today for a free sno cone. Every Saturday they offer the delicious tasty treat. They're perfect on a hot summer day.

They have my favorite, blue raspberry and pineapple, cherry and many more flavors.

They always have free coffee and popcorn, too.

Aladdin's is a popular late night spot

aladdins2
Aladdin's Grill is the center of attention at 3415 Main Highway most nights, but on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 10 pm, the belly dancers stop traffic on the sidewalks and on the street.

They have all your Middle Eastern favorites like Tabouleh salad, Kafta and Falafel wraps, Beef or Chicken Shawerma platters and Lamb Kababs and so much more, but one favorite you would not expect is their chocolate shake! Try it, it's light and refreshing and perfect on a warm summer's day
(or night).

Their menu may be seen here:

It looks like New England after Labor Day

All the U.S. Flags are coming down around town, they really should leave up a few every here and there. It seems so blah now, like New England or the Hamptons after Labor Day, when the summer sun has faded.

Here are a couple of the crew taking down the flags on Commodore Plaza this morning.

I know the 4th of July is over, but maybe some other type thing can add color to the streets. I know large flower pots and maybe flowers hanging from the light poles are in the works and possibly even different type flags, more like fancy banners, are in the works for Commodore Plaza.

The one thing that does need to come down in the large banner announcing July 4th at South Bayshore Drive and Mary Street. That ship already sailed.
