Ocean's Choice Seafood (3646 Grand Avenue) has great delicious seafood, but I like them on Saturdays, when they have barbecue. We need a barbecue place in the Grove, a couple of places promised to open shop but nothing has arrived yet.
There's talk of Golden Ribs coming on Douglas and Grand Avenue, doesn't look like anything yet. But back to Ocean's Choice, they have barbecued ribs and chicken on Saturdays, $10 for ribs and $8.00 for chicken with all the fixin's. That's Ira Davis, the chef and with her is Mike Wilson, the assistant manager at left.Their daily fish specials include:
Dressed Conch - $8.00 / Fish and Chips - $7.00 / Fried Talapia - $6.00 / Shrimp & Conch - $15.50At market price are Yellowtail/Lame Snapper, Grouper and Kingfish steak.Also on the menu:
Grilled Chicken, Pork Chop (2) and Talapia Sandwiches from $6.00 to $8.00
Mad Mini Burgers (3) for $3.25 / Classic Burger for $6.00; and they offer lots of wings with lots of wing flavors: buffalo, lemon pepper, honey BBQ, sweet chili, lime heat and spiced soy.
Homemade desserts include: fudge brownie, banana pudding, lemon pound cake, double chocolate cake, sweet potato pie (Saturday only) and more.
There are pasta dishes and meatloaf specials and lots of other things.
They are open Tuesday thru Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm. They also cater, for the catering menu and info, please call 786-355-9776.
The Grove's only casually chic lounge (the Lobby Lounge) is
presenting Perrier Jouët Fridays at the Ritz-Carlton (3300 SW 27 Avenue) tonight with specialty priced Bellinis for $10.00 from 6-8 pm.
Stop in for the Bellinis, and stay for the chef’s famous Bruschetta, served fresh out of the oven, fantastic live music until 9 pm and free valet parking, all for you to enjoy complimentary in a gorgeous Italian-villa like setting.
For info: 305-644-4680
A reality show will be filming the crew at Boardwalk Tavern (3421 Main Highway) tonight. They are doing a story or something on their DJ Ali B.
Stop by, get in the filming (possibly) and enjoy the $20 all you can drink Thursday night special.
Just recently, Allure Salon a few doors down, was filmed for a reality show. Guess that stretch of Main Highway is good at producing tv stars.
Here is a full list of the City salaries just released. It's public record.
You may need to download the free Excel Viewer to see it. That is here.
The condensed list that the Biscayne Times has in PDF form is here.
Today in the Grove for lunch you could have had the following: Eggplant Wraps (with lettuce, black olives, feta cheese and Italian dressing) for $5.00Pita Veggie (with green and red peppers, chickpeas, cucumber, parsley) for $5.00
Empanadas for $2.00
Pasta Salad with carrots, green salad and juice for $7.00And this is just a few things offered from Veni Vidi Veggie. Where are they located in the Grove? They aren't in the Grove, but they have guys walking around twice a week, who take orders and deliver at these reasonable prices. They are actually located on NW 29 Street and 79th Avenue.
It's not legal to stop them from taking business away from local restaurants, so maybe Coconut Grove restaurants should join them. Do the same thing, hand out menus and deliver to the local businesses and residents.
In a strange case of politics and laws, the law requires that Tomás Regalado, City Commissioner, right, who is running for Mayor, vacate his commission seat 60 days before the election on November 3.
But in another strange turn, one of his commission colleagues is able to appoint him as his own replacement. It is assumed that Angel Gonzalez will do that, but his rival for Mayor in the upcoming election, Joe Sanchez, says he will also be willing to do the deed in the interest of the City, so as not to have a vacated seat for Regalado's commission district.
He has 10 days to do that after Regalado's resignation (his seat is not officially up until 2012).
I see it as going against "The Secret." If Regalado expects to win, he needs to put that out into the Universe and just "know" that he does not need his commisson seat and he needs to let it go.
And we want to know why the City is going broke. The Biscayne Times has published a list of Miami's Top Salaries for last year. These figures include overtime, settlements, retroactive pay raises, etc.
