I noticed with the Saturday Night Gallery Walk that it was hit or miss this month. Some galleries did a lot of business and others not so much. I was told at Frameworks, which had a great exhibit, that they sold three paintings just as soon as they opened their doors. Above is the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery, which always has something different that sells and attracts crowds.
The Cristina Chacon Gallery on Commodore Plaza was quite busy. They had the "Small Works" opening, which are small pieces by various artists.
The Bosewell Fine Art Gallery had people coming in and out all evening, saw lots of new faces there. They have two floors of exhibits.
This small piece at Boswell is a play on the Christ of the Ozarks statue, which is a large piece in Arkansas. They sell smaller replicas in gift shops in that area, this is one, and then artist Jon Etienne Mourot puts glitter on them and they are called "Glitter Jesus." They sell for $75 each (the glitterized versions). The cathedral behind Glitter Jesus is a large painting for sale at the gallery. It reminds me of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, but it's another cathedral.
I think there needs to be more art on the streets and not necessarily new exhibits, but more of the same only brought outside. The Neith Nevelson exhibit was a huge hit, of course, because of Neith, but also because it was outside, where many younger people stopped by. I am not so sure these young people would have stepped into the wine shop, the original location for the exhibit. And the Boswell Gallery had their doors open, which encouraged people to enter.
