The annual Camp Honey Shine is taking place at the Carrollton School in Coconut Grove, from June 8 to July 3, 2009.
For the Honey Shine Mentoring Program, summer is the best time to re-emphasize the lessons learned throughout the year with an added dose of much-need summer fun. This is the camp's fourth year for the camp, which offers 100 young girls (Honey Bugs) from the mentoring program, a chance at new experiences. On June 9, a behind-the-scenes tour of Miami Metrozoo is planned, also the camp offers swimming arts and crafts, reading, dance, fitness, journalism and even a talent show.
"This is an opportunity for the Honey Shine Mentoring Program to provide a safe environment for our girls to develop their own voice by exposing them to people, resources and messages that are life changing. During the school year, Honey Shine gathers bi-weekly for Saturday workshops. During Camp Honey Shine we get to see the girls everyday for four weeks straight. The impact that we have during this time is so much greater. The breakthroughs and milestones our girls experience reaffirms our purpose," said Tracy Wilson Mourning, founder of the Honey Shine Mentoring Program.
