Panel discussion on the future of Grove retail

Someone was just asking me what I think of all the empty storefronts on Main Highway, she said it looks like a ghost town. I actually like ghost towns, but I guess that's not the way a thriving community should be. And just in time to save the Grove is the "Retail Update -- Focus on Coconut Grove," a panel discussion on development and retail trends.

International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the global trade association of the shopping center industry will be holding the program and reception on Thursday, June 4 at the Sonesta Bayfront Hotel (2889 McFarlane Road) from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Angie Kenyon is moderator, she is Development Director of Build2Suit, LLC. Panelists include Peter Gardner, President, Pointe Group Advisors; Pete Hernandez, Miami City Manager and Mia Stierheim of Stierheim and Wesson, Leasing Director of CocoWalk.

I was asked recently by another leasing manager in Coconut Grove for my opinion on the type of restaurants we would like in the area. I talked about that here, but was shot down because most did not like my suggestions, well this panel discussion may be the place to come up with ideas and suggestions.

On line registration filled up fast, but you may sign up and register on site on Thursday.

I also have a discussion board started on Facebook, asking about the restaurants we would like to see in the Grove here.
